About this video

A farmer keeps postponing work while weeds spread across his fertile fields and his family's grain runs out. Kisan Aur Sadhu: a lazy farmer ploughs his whole field hunting for hidden gold and finds a far greater treasure. In this Hindi moral story, a poor farmer owns plenty of fertile land, yet his family often goes to bed half hungry. Laziness keeps his plough in the corner. Every morning he tells himself he will work tomorrow, and every tomorrow slips away while the weeds spread and the grain pots empty one by one. One sad morning a wandering sadhu passes the farmer's hut and stops to ask why a man with such good land looks so troubled. The farmer admits that laziness has tied his hands. The sadhu makes a surprising promise: a pouch of gold and silver jewellery lies hidden somewhere in the field, and the farmer can find it if he ploughs the whole land well. The hope of treasure does what hunger could not. The farmer lifts the old plough and works through aching hands, blistered palms and the midday sun, turning over every corner of the field. By sunset the whole land is ploughed, but there is no treasure, only pebbles and roots. That night the sadhu quietly returns by moonlight and scatters good seeds across the fresh furrows, and a good rain follows. Soon green shoots rise from the once-empty field. The farmer comes every day to pull weeds and tend the young plants, and his laziness gives way to enthusiasm. When the crop stands tall and full, he finally understands the sadhu's hint. The real treasure was never buried in the soil; it was the hard work that woke the land and gave his children new hope. Watch how one clever hint turns an idle farmer into a hard-working one. The story's other name says it all: Mehnat Ka Sachcha Khazana, the true treasure of hard work, a lesson that lasts longer than any pouch of gold. Hindi transcript

The narration as spoken, from the caption track uploaded with this video.
